Christian Faith Baptist Church was birthed on October 19, 1960, when a small group of believers gathered in the home of Brother and Sister Willie Walker, Jr. Led by the Holy Spirit and a deep desire to obey God, they established what would become a lasting spiritual home for generations. Under the leadership of our founder, Pastor E. Leroy Joseph, the church began with only a handful of members and quickly grew in strength, unity, and purpose.
From humble beginnings—first meeting in a living room, then renting a small building for eight dollars a week—Christian Faith Baptist Church stepped into a season of growth. By 1961, the congregation moved to Brinkley Street, where faithful members volunteered time, labor, and resources to expand the sanctuary. Through generous giving, personal sacrifice, and God’s provision, the church built what is now the Bertha Joseph Fellowship Hall and later a 10,526 square-foot sanctuary that opened in 1989 with nearly 200 members.
Over the next decades, God continued to bless the ministry. Land was acquired, new buildings were developed, and the church became a pillar in the Sunnyside community. In 2017, the pastoral parsonage was completed—another testament to the commitment, love, and unity of the Christian Faith family.
After 61 years of faithful leadership, Pastor Joseph, guided by the Holy Spirit, nominated Rev. Henry Guillory as his successor. On January 16, 2022, Pastor Guillory was installed as the church’s second pastor—marking a historic new chapter. Today, Pastor Guillory leads with vision, compassion, and a passion for seeing God’s people grow. Under his leadership, we are preparing to open the Bertha Joseph Learning Center, which will offer grade-school curriculum, tutoring, teen college-readiness programs, and expanded community services. Future plans also include establishing the Leroy Joseph Development Center in honor of our founder.
For more than six decades, Christian Faith Baptist Church has stood as a place of worship, family, and transformation. Our heartbeat remains the same:
Reaching Out. Renewing Lives. Reflecting Christ.
We are excited for what God is building and grateful to continue our legacy of faith, service, and community impact.
